I wanted to send you a quick note before tomorrow. I want you to know that you have so much relevance in people's lives. You don't just offer yoga classes, you offer so much more. But you know that.
I have historically been a nervous high strung person. Since I have practiced at Krama religiously since December, I feel so much calmer. With it being the day before surgery, I have no idea and can't believe I am so At peace. I attribute it to the meditation skills that I have acquired.
I know it takes years to make a yoga and meditation journey, but I am thankful for what little progress I have made so far.
Thank you. Namaste

~Yogi for life~
I have benign cardiac arrhythmia and am encouraged by my Cardiologist to live a very peaceful life to avoid the tremendously painful consequence of the condition. It has been a struggle avoiding caffeine, strenuous activity and most of all avoiding stress. I saw my doctor about 4 weeks into practicing with you and he actually asked me what I had been doing to “relax” because he recognized that my heart was beating very regularly. Typically he tells me to take it easy, sends me for more tests, etc. How tremendously awesome it was to hear such unexpected feedback!! I told him about your studio and our practice and he said it was common for people with heart conditions to reap benefits from Yoga. I believe it is the very specific type of breathing you have taught us along with the gentle practice that ease my heart into a healthy rhythm. I have made a commitment to Krama because it is the first place I have felt the presence of a spiritual awakening within myself which urges me to want more from my practice. All of the instructors I have experienced have brought me into a discipline of the mind, a concentration on breath and a combining of breath and body. I haven’t had any mid-night emergency hospital runs from chest pain and I cherish that relief!!! I have also struggled with weight loss for years now and have fought with dieting/ exercise. Krama has effortlessly eased me into a healthier mentality where I eat “around” my Yoga practice not because I am struggling to achieve weigh loss but because even the best food pales in comparison to practicing well in a healthy body! I have noticed an improvement in my digestion and unexpectedly a strengthening in my core area which I wasn’t even aware of before. Krama and your high standard of Yoga have truly changed my life, improved my heart and I along with my family are very grateful for you!

Ricky and Krama Yoga Center have a powerful, transformative capability for the beginner to advanced students. The consistency of the schedule is ideal for building a strong practice, offering great classes throughout the week and over the course of each day. My favorite classes are the Tuesday 6am Second Series and Sunday 8am Primary Series. Ricky exhibits the appropriate and necessary sternness that Ashtanga requires in order to promote correct alignment and integrity within each posture, as well as the humor, sweetness and spontaneity that keeps you coming back.

3/7/2013 - "Yoga can do what nothing else can do: Introduce you to yourself."
Ricky,
Teacher Training, for me, should be retitled "Introduction to Thyself." In the beginning the reason why I was taking the TT class was for better knowledge of the asana practice and yoga in general. Who better to learn it from than the one person who introduced me to what a real yoga practice can do for your life. Your teachings of the basic principles of a good yoga practice opened a door to a more balanced way of life, a way to make the day more about living and less about surviving. The TT asana practice, this is where you really excel, all the information you gave us to teach helps our own practice. The way you teach and the style in which you trained all of us allowed us to feel that the mysticism surrounding yoga is revealed by correct knowledge of what yoga means to us as individuals, which is where I am at this moment. I feel in finishing the 200 hour TT, my journey just began. My personal 200 hour TT was an introduction to my true Self. It answered the question, "Why Yoga for Life?" and defined a path which allows many junctions, time to take them all, and a quest for more knowledge. These are signs of a GREAT teacher. So your question was do I want my certificate? I got sooo much more than a certificate! I will take a certificate that tells me "I am on my way". I won"t take a certificate that says, "I finished". I am no way near done!
Many thanks to you, Ricky!

2/26/2013 "The joy is in the journey, not the destination."
Ricky,
I'm not great with verbalizing my emotions, but I wanted to send you an email to say thank you! Ever since I have been practicing with you at Krama, I have seen much improvement in many aspects of my life. I am not taking my Zantac (heartburn medication) anymore and I am weaning myself off of my Prozac. The only prescription medication I am currently on is Flonase which I would love to stop taking and I am working on finding a way to do that.
I met with my counselor this morning and she commented on how relaxed I was and how I was able to speak to her more calmly than I have in the past. My mind has begun to slow down and I am able to truly enjoy what is important to me in my life. Before, I was so focused on everything else spinning around me that I had no idea who I was anymore. I know myself better and I am finding congruence within who I want to be and who I am (becoming). I am calmer and more patient with my son (most of the time) and I believe that has strengthened our relationship. Same goes for my relationship with my husband.
I am also enjoying school more because I have allowed myself to take a step back and let go of the competitive aspect of it. I have always strived for and stressed myself out over being right and getting A's. Now I am truly enjoying and absorbing the information rather than just memorizing it. Therefore, I am becoming more confident in myself as a future counselor.
Lastly, I am continuously amazed at the parallels I find almost everyday among counseling and yoga. Yoga is most certainly the foundation of counseling. I have many times read Buddhist quotes within texts regarding the basis of counseling theories. This makes complete sense now to me, that I am drawn so much to both. I have spent so many years giving so much of myself to helping others that I began to let go of who I am. My counseling program has encouraged me to take part in a great deal of self reflection and in that process I was guided back to yoga. My search for the "perfect studio" led me to yours...a place I have driven by over and over for as long as you have been in that location. I am incredibly grateful for where my journey has taken me so far, and incredibly grateful to you for all of the guidance you have provided for me. Yoga has become something much more than a "work out" for me. Slowly, but surely, I am immersing myself into this new lifestyle. It may take some time for me, but I have accepted that. I don't need to do it all today and know it all by tomorrow. I am enjoying this process.
Again, thank you.

2/21/2013 My "Aha" Moment
Ricky,
Something finally clicked today in class when you were talking about forward bends and then every individual modifying their practice. I'm not sure why this has taken so long to sink in (I think because I want to be just as good as everyone else). When I take forward bends with my back rounded (seated or standing), I upset some kind of nerve in my lower back, which results in stabbing pain when I take a counter pose or lay down on my back afterwards. Flat back is perfectly fine. I'd just been dealing with the pain because I wanted to get all the poses "right" and because I can physically do the motions. Today I modified this and left feeling great. Thank you.

Karla is one of the many gems you'll find at Krama Yoga Center. Her classes have such a blissful energy and unique focus on the anatomical structure of the pose. One of the things I love most about her teaching style is her cueing. She has an artful way of describing the positioning of your body which paints a clear image in my mind allowing me to focus more on my breath and internal world. Try her, you'll absolutely love her practice.

I can practice at some studios, and learn a great deal, but eventually it seems like I hit a wall… like I have tapped out the resources and there is not a whole lot left below the surface. But here at Krama, after months of practice, life has changed dramatically and the well of informative practices, workshops, and VIBRANT, positive, ENERGY seems to grow even deeper. I have taken a teacher training at a different studio, and feel that I learned more in just taking the classes offered at Krama than in those 7 months of my teacher training! Not to mention the cOMmUNITY that the Krama studio creates! All the teachers are welcoming, and you can tell that they are all there for their students; to help us all grow as individuals and reach our Highest potential. There is something special about Krama Yoga Center, and you can DEFINITELY feel it the minute you walk in and take just one class.

"Life-changing" describes my experience at Krama Yoga Center. With a spongy Susan G. Komen yoga mat under my arm and mastectomy scars across my chest, I entered Ricky Tran's gentle class just before turning 61 in November. I was looking for a bit of exercise for my body that always seemed to be tired, but what I found was renewal. From the first breath, I knew I was into something good. Supportive and encouraging teachers offered suggestions for adjusting poses I could not (yet) do and positive feedback for those I discovered I could. They are patient as I overcome my need to excel physically and prove myself immune to aging and cancer. In the midst of it all are meditations that exercise my spirit. I am fast outgrowing my spongy pink and black mat and now know the difference between Manduka and Jade. I have discovered a community of people brought together by a desire to live a healthy lifestyle and help others in the process.
Thanks Ricky, Carla, Amanda, Linda, and the Krama community!

I have practiced yoga for several years on my own using DVDs but a year ago I blessedly happened on Krama Yoga Center via a groupon and I have been practicing there now for over a year. I have to tell those of you who think you are doing yourself a favor and saving a buck by using a DVD or taking that class included in your gym membership that you are not. As I had to discover for myself, there is absolutely nothing so beneficial in yoga than a real studio with gifted teachers. I have many, many health problems and I know even through my DVD's that yoga was beneficial but when I started practicing with a real instructor trained to address the student holistically, my life changed in amazing ways.
Krama Yoga Center is a place for healing, prevention and health. The first thing that struck me when I came into the place was the warm greeting I received and an obvious sense of a caring community/family atmosphere that embraced me and made me feel at home immediately. I also noted many people like me, people with chronic conditions in need of health and healing and also many couples were practicing.
The owner, Ricky Tran, is young but he has life experiences from which he has learned and is learning and gives of himself unselfishly. He is the real deal. He knows each of his members, and cares about every individual and their needs. He will not shy away from sharing with you a hard truth but he is the first to celebrate the joys of your accomplishments, and you will have accomplishments at Krama. All who show up and do the work experience the blessings of that work.
What is also great about Krama is that Ricky is not the only totally awesome instructor. He is very select as to who he has caring for his clients and it shows. He has selected teachers with expertise in the varied disciplines within yoga. You will recieve a well-rounded education if this is what you want and perhaps even a future as an instructor yourself should you feel the desire. If not, you will still be assured of an amazing life-long journey.
Classes range from gentle (not to be confused with very easy) to vigorous and many in between. There are many offerings at all these levels daily so you should be able to find just the right starting point for you, If unsure or a little scared of embarrassing yourself, which won't happen in this caring community but if concerned you are in the right class for you, don't hesitate to discuss your level with one of the very compentent instructors who will be glad to guide you to the right first class for you.
Ricky has also thoughtfully created a community experience for those who want to take advantage of a wonderfully healthy lifestyle filled with loving friends that become your yoga family. Ricky is well respected nationally and I wouldn't be at all surprised if that is internationally as well and he knows many talented yogis. The quality and frequency of the special events he manages to attract to our little studio is nothing short of phenominal. On any given weekend you can be exposed to different visiting teachers and learn the science and philosophy of yoga as well as have a great time and enjoy awesome music, lectures, food and fascinating information about other cultures through the history of yoga. All while getting stronger, healthier and feeling as if you are literally turning back the clock.
What has Krama Yoga Center done for me in the past year that I wouldn't have otherwise experienced? I have lost 15 pounds without trying and kept it off. My chronic medical conditions, especially the pain, are better controlled than what any physician has been able to do for me. My laundry list of 8 different kinds of medications has safely been reduced to 3 and decreasing as my health improves and my physicians are very excited by this. I have also tapped into a creative side I didn't even know I possessed which has caused me to start my own company! Such a thrill and inspiration in my middle aged years. I have gained so many new, creative and wonderful friends. Real people who really care, and now I am even getting a chance for a new and exciting time in my marriage of 31 years because now my husband is practicing with me! It is wonderful to watch him benefit physically and mentally as well. To take a break from his high stress world and just BE with me.
This is no ordinary place. This is an extraordinary place. How often do you have the chance to improve every aspect of you life simply by showing up? LIke Ricky says, it is the days when you don't feel like going that you need to go the most. It is so very true. After years of battling with my declining health I had lost all hope at the time I walked through those doors at Krama Yoga Center. It is true that when you have your health you have everything. I know I do and I would encourage those of you close enough to make the trip to try a few classes and see what all the excitement is about.

I've taken yoga in many places in my life, and the yoga classes offered in Dallas are some of the worst examples that I've ever encountered. No doubt there are some great studios and fantastic teachers here that I haven't encountered, but in general the classes are far too fast and there is very little to no teaching of the philosophy behind the poses.
Krama Yoga and Ricky Tran are a welcome exception to the rule. A practitioner can find and develop an authentic yoga practice here, with a wonderful community of yogis as support, and a beautiful man and teacher at the helm in Ricky Tran. The asana practice is safe, level appropriate, and a careful eye for alignment is always there looking out for practitioners long term health of joints, muscles and bones. Philosophy is always woven into practice, and even guided pranayama and chanting are presented which is very rare and an incredible boon.
I've grown to know Ricky as a contemporary, a friend, and also as a teacher. In response to one of the comments that is presented here about his ego, I couldn't disagree more. He is one of the finest teachers that I know.
When presented with truth, people usually move through the following three phases: Ridicule, violent opposition, and finally acceptance as being self evident. I thank God that I found someone in this community to share with me the truths of yoga, and I think that it is expected to encounter folks in all three phases of acceptance.
Thank you Ricky, and thank you to the whole Krama family and community.
Om Shanti, shanti, shanti...

It is teacher appreciation week, so I thought I would give a well deserved pat on the back to my favorite teacher!
I have been going to Krama Yoga for a little over two months. I have lost 25 pounds without changing my diet, and I feel a great since of stress relief. I attend gentle yoga classes, and Karla teaches 2 out of the 3 classes a week that I attend.
I adore Karla's classes! They are very well organized and I always feel like I learn something new. I love that she takes her yoga wisdom and anatomical knowledge to help me work on building a peaceful body. She applies sensitivity to my level while encouraging me to take risks as I grow in my journey. I appreciate that she offers modifications and choices for the many ability levels represented...she genuinely appreciates the uniqueness of each person at every class, and I always leave feeling nurtured in my yoga practice.
Karla keeps a consistent flow to the class and makes sure that we all remain focused on OUR work (instead of the progress of those around us). She does not distract or detract with chatter, and that helps me to remain present and centered. I also appreciate her 'hands on' approach to helping students who are struggling. The class continues calmly and no one feels 'called out' if they are new or not getting a technique.
Karla is like a good counselor since she allows the focus to be on you the student, and not on herself. My yoga classes are the only 'me' time I get between multiple jobs, a dying mother, and other life stresses. I appreciate that Karla keeps the focal point in the right place and acts as my guide.
I have been in many yoga classes over the years, and there are some things I have learned about different types of teachers:
1. Some teachers teach to be the center of attention, successful teachers help you center your attention.
2. Some teachers teach to be worshipped, successful teachers teach as a way to honor others.
3. Some teachers need to prove they are number one, successful teachers teach without the need to prove but are student focused.
4. Some teachers teach for money, but successful teachers work with gratitude and for pleasure.
5. Some teachers need to be seen as attractive, but the BEST teachers help their students find their beauty within and nurture them to bring it out for all to see!
I feel blessed to have a yoga studio right by my house that has a teacher that exhibits the latter half of all 5 statements above! Thank you Karla for being patient, encouraging and bringing out the best in me! Happy teacher appreciation week!

Fantastic yoga studio! Have tried many studios and this is the best one I have found. Really appreciate the approach the instructors have and I always feel better when I leave.

Being a professional Martial Artist for over 22 years, I have experienced an ocean full of instructors, teachers, masters, & mentors. Therefore, I feel it's a little easier for me to recognize/identify those instructors that are less then stellar. Likewise, I can almost instantaneously identify teachers that have truly mastered their craft.
A master instructor must have skill, passion, drive, discipline, charisma, a love for his craft, and a willingness to share it with anyone who desires it. Ricky has these unique qualities, and many more. In fact, to see ALL these qualities in the same person is a rare experience indeed.
I have been a pupil of Ricky's for over a year now. I have seen him grow as a business owner, as a teacher, and as a leader. And I am very impressed! His ability to listen, understand, & embrace constructive critisism is a critical skill he possesses, teaches, and lives by. He is approachable... he is professional... and he is amazing to watch!!
My testimony is simple. For over 22 years I have desired to become a World Champion in Taekwondo. And every year, this elusive goal has escaped my grasp. However, when I began cross-training with Ricky, my life changed... my body changed... my mind changed. My focus, balance, flexibility, and strength grew beyond what I was able to acheive with just my martial art. And in June of 2011, I embraced my dream and became the 2011 World Champion. And although it would be foolish to say it was all because of Yoga... I am 100% certain that Ricky, and his unique passion, had MUCH to do with my success. I'm sold. I hope you will give it a try. God Bless.

What a fantastic place to truly learn and practice yoga!!! In the last 3 months I have been attending classes on a regular basis, so many transformations in my body have occured. My thyroid function that has been dormant is now at a regular level as well as my hormones are back in check after being told that I was in full blown menepause. I have regular cycles just as I did over a year ago.
Ricky Tran, the owner and primary teacher, is absolutely amazing. Although I have been practicing yoga for many years, I have never learned so much about yoga, breathe, meditation and how it all works together to heal and restore youth. All of the classes are amazing and I am determined that I will master the Ashtanga I series within the next month. I am always challenged but in a relaxed and fun environment. Listening and patience and being gentle with my body feels so much better than running a marathon through a "yoga" class.
I am always walking out saying to myself...."Wow....that was amazing!"

Ricky Tran is an amazing yoga instructor! I've been to several of his AWESOME workshops in Houston and classes at KYC. He gives amazing adjustments and always reminds you to relax & breathe during difficult poses. My bf has really tight hips, he is very impressed that Ricky can safely guide him into difficult hip opening poses w/o pain.
12/29/2011
First visit last night and I was definitely impressed by the class. I have been searching for a true yoga experience that would push the confines of my "gym" experience and provide spiritual guidance for improved health and enlightenment. I believe I have found it. Come visit and see for yourself. You won't know unless you try it.
12/28/2011
KYC is greatness! Ricky's practice is like nothing you've ever seen before. His instructors are the best and it's a warm, friendly environment. I want everyone to come to KYC and see what real yoga is about.

Awesome! If you want to deepen your practice and take it to the next level this is a good choice. This is one of the practices where you learn and integrate, not just go to the dynamics of a class and then forget. Good environment and group of people. Highly recommend it!

First visit last night and I was definitely impressed by the class. I have been searching for a true yoga experience that would push the confines of my "gym" experience and provide spiritual guidance for improved health and enlightenment. I believe I have found it. Come visit and see for yourself. You won't know unless you try it.
